Church Building 101 – Shoring the Foundations

The building of a church is a generational endeavor that begins by fostering of a wonder of reality within the youngest minds of it’s parishioners. The wise master builder exists as a  harbinger of a particular sacramental understanding… that we ourselves make up the Corpus Christi and within that body – God is with us. Its along this incarnational reality we celebrate  Christmas.

My children  appreciate the historic development of Christ’s body with sweet delight by building a gingerbread church during advent. What’s fun for them and instructive for me is that each year the design develops, the process becomes more ready-at-hand, and the decorum every slightly more elaborate and meaningful. The builder’s are young and there is so much future. The beauty of old cathedrals is held within the testimony of the church militant striving in and through history – recording each successive generation’s development and growth of that Domus Dei.
